Repairing Kato SD40 trucks?

I am having trouble with the trucks on a Kato SD40 (first release).

The trucks are not transfering electricity to the frame. I want to take them apart, and clean them, but cannot get the damn things apart. I'm pretty sure the four little 'clips' on the bottom of the truck are what i need to 'unclip', but they wont let go.

Any advice?
