Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
"The Christmas Train"

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is pleased to introduce "The Christmas Train" on December 4, 2004. This "fantasy vintage steam train holiday ride" will feature special character appearances, refreshments, and storytelling with the debut of the C&TS RR’s very own Christmas story. As the "Polar Express" movie hits the theatres, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad proudly rolls out its own holiday tale that takes place in New Mexico and on board the C&TS Train. The story incorporates the Train’s mascot, Cinder Bear, along with special appearance by Santa Claus. The story, written by a local Chama, NM resident, presents the Train in a whole new light to a new audience—the family audience. "The Christmas Train" experience offers much more than a train ride. It offers a unique holiday experience targeted to entertain and create old-fashioned holiday memories for the whole family. Children will love the holiday train ride as well as the story, "Cinder Bear and The Christmas Train". The entire family will share in this unique memory making experience.

Two trips are scheduled for "The Christmas Train" on December 4th. The first train will depart from Antonito, CO at 10 A.M. and return back to the Antonito Station at noon. The afternoon train will depart from Chama NM at 2 P.M. and will return to the Chama Train Depot at 4 P.M. In conjunction with the two hour ride aboard the historic steam narrow gauge train, "The Christmas Train" will include holiday refreshments, live storytelling on board the train, a special appearance by Cinder Bear and Santa Claus and a unique Santa memento for all children train riders. Additionally, both communities- Antonito, CO and Chama, NM- are planning weekend events in conjunction with the "Christmas Train" offering a variety of holiday happenings for visitors and Train riders. Local merchants, lodges and restaurateurs will be rolling out the "holiday red carpet" for this special new event.

"The Christmas Train" is the premier event of a new marketing campaign by the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad featuring children. The new campaign will include the addition of a Children’s Train in 2005. In addition to the traditional Train Rides offered during the normal Train Season (Memorial Day to Mid-October), there will be a new Train ride every Wednesday, created for children and their family. The "Cinder Express" will be a one hour train ride that includes special programs and special character participation. The program is designed to create an entertaining and educational experience for the entire family. Adults will only be allowed to purchase a ticket in conjunction with a child.

Additional programs currently being developed include a Children’s web based program, called "CinderKids". It will co-mingle education, fun and historical components for a children’s audience.
