Red face The Greenbrier Logging and Lumber Co. part 2

Here i go again. New thread, thats how many now??? Anyway This is going to be the next mistake i make I know how i can cut the layout to add the extra inches i need. It will be 76 inches long when done by 36 inches wide. Not sure how high yet. Mountains i want lower and i want to change the waterfall area so both trestles will be above the waterfall. The town will be all on the mountain side or back of the layout. I don't have the track plan finished yet. Next post. later, Smoke

As I recall the last play you had was pretty good, Dan. I look forward to seeing what you design next.

Don't worry about starting another new thread. This is a hobby, you can change your mind and start over as many times as you want to as long as you're having fun.

No Bachmann! Will use Atlas for most of the stuff. two shays, a 4-4-0 and then i have to figure out where or who i want for the main line. Maybe a 2-8-2 or a 4-6-2 or maybe a 2-6-0. Have to see what i can find on E-slay. Thats down the road but i want a 4-4-0 first. if i don't have too much of a hard time with it on the track i shouldn't have any issues with the other engines.

New plan looks good, Dan. The only thing I would add is a run around track so it's easier to work the sidings.

That looks good, Dan. You have the small run around siding at the bottom center of the plan but it looks like you can only run around 1 or 2 cars there which would make operations possible but very tedious. It looks like you can spend an hour or two switching cars or just run a train around the main when you feel like it.

That was one of the reasons to have dcc. I can run one up the mountain, another in the yard and yet another around the outer parts of the layout. I will be starting this up after the new year and should be fun with the scenery! Not sure about the rest....

Sometimes i feel like they don't know what global warming is all about. Right now its Texas freezing!!! Still fighting the cold. Its in my lungs again. Using two different types of antibiotics and hope it will work. Doc is a bit upset. My allergies.. wants me to chop down the elm trees outside my house or move elsewhere. I have a large allergy to Mold!! It gets me everytime. The leaves go to the ground and get moldy and everytime i go outdoors its right there. Raking is out of the question. And masks don't work. O2 would help but i don't want to go there. Thats why i left Az. Not sure what we are going to do. opinions are still out on that verdict yet. Will let you know what happens as i do, Dan

Working on the layout plan i came up with this idea. If this works i can keep most of the height of the mountains as they are. This will also give the room for the town beside the sawmill. another thing is i have more room for the track climbing up to the camps. Right now i am figuring if i gain all that much for the ramp to the mountain. I'd like to get the ramp below 2% grade if i can. Shot below, Dan

The extra 16" makes a big difference, Dan. The layout feels much bigger.

I would think Arizona would be good for you since it's supposed to be dry, no mold. I've never been there so I don't know for sure. I think Utah and Nevada are also supposed to be dry climates.

Can you take Benedril to help with the allergy?

Arizona was dry and i liked it but was up to high in attitude. was at around 2500 feet and was having issues with breathing without oxygen. Here is down low. about 800 feet. Breath much easier but the allergies don't help. I do take benadryl but not enough. I have three other meds i take for my breathing. I am thinking of a island somewhere with nothing but sand, no trees... no grass....just sand....

I think that the extra will allow me to make it all come together. Will find out after the New Year. after the holidays i can start to figure out how much it will give me. Hope i can make it work, Dan

It sounds like you would do well in a desert, Dan. Maybe California, Nevada or Utah would work for you. I'm not sure about the elevation in those states. Florida is almost at sea level but it's humid with lots of tropical plants so it probably wouldn't work.

Hey, Dan -

If 2,500 ft is to much altitude for you, try the Bahamas. Sea level, and after living there for a half year (on a sailboat), neither Kathy nor I experienced any allergies.

Wishing you the best,
Gordon

I have thought about the caribbean. I love boating and fishing. Warm water sounds great. Haven't been down in that area for about 45 years now. Liked it, didn't want to leave.
